FAQ

Q: If this renewal levy passes, when would my taxes go up?

A: Taxes will not increase with voter approval of this renewal levy, Issue 10. Costs would remain the same, at less than $3 a month per $100,000 of property value.

Q: How many levies support Sinclair?

A: Montgomery County voters have entrusted Sinclair with levy funding for more than half a century – since 1966 – and there are currently two local levies for Sinclair. The renewal levy on the November ballot was first approved by voters in 2015. The other levy was renewed by voters in 2017 with 74% of the vote. Together, these levies allow Sinclair to provide the affordable and up-to-date higher education and advanced job training our residents and workforce need to compete.

Q: Is this renewal levy permanent or temporary?

A: Both of Sinclair’s levies are temporary, meaning they expire after a fixed period of time and must be approved by county voters in a public election to continue.  With voter approval, Issue 10 would renew the existing 1-mill levy for a period of ten years. This process ensures accountability – because Sinclair has to keep coming back to voters for their approval and consent.

Q: How much of the Sinclair renewal levy will be spent in neighboring counties?

A: Every levy dollar, by law, is used right here in Montgomery County to provide high-quality, affordable college education and advanced job training to our residents. The renewal levy is also a strong, no-tax-increase investment in Montgomery County’s workforce and economy, because 90% of Sinclair graduates stay, live, and work in the region.
